Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” Jacket To Be Auctioned

On June 25 and 26, Michael Jackson’s infamous red and black leather “Thriller” jacket, will be featured in the Music Icons Auction held by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. The jacket was designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis for Jackson to wear during the filming of the video, but it became so symbolic of the song that Jackson continued to wear jackets of the same design while performing “Thriller” for the rest of his career. According to Darren Julien, auction administrator, it has become “the most recognized and significant piece of pop culture.”

Along with the jacket, the auction will also feature the wig Jackson wore when he announced his “This Is It” concert series in London, a fedora and original signed sketch, and a glove Jackson wore at the American Music Awards, among other personal items.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Shambala Preserve, where Jackson’s bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu, have been living since he left Neverland Ranch in 2006.
For those who cannot afford to bid on the estimated $200,000 jacket, fans and fashionistas can admire it, along with the rest of the collection at Julien’s Auctions Gallery in Beverly Hills from June 13-25, 2011.
