Will The Upcoming Young Money/Cash Money LP's Dethrone Jay And Ye? [Click Here & Speak]

A thousand illegal downloads and even more "Otis" freestyles later, Watch The Throne is now officially one week old. In album years, that's enough to start discussing upcoming releases, which isn't a bad idea, considering two very highly anticipated discs will soon be available at a retailer near you.
[Editor's Note: The views expressed in this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH.com]
While no album this year can match the hype of the Hov/West collabo project, it will be cool to see if the upcoming projects from Young Money/Cash Money artists Lil' Wayne and Drake will give Watch The Throne a run for its, well, money.
Wayne's previous installment into the Carter series sold an impressive 1,005,545 copies in its first week, easily crushing the first week sales of WTT. His frequent partner in rhyme, Drake, also reached platinum status, with 1,417,000 U.S. records sold as of July.
The Carter IV and Drake's Take Care are separate items from the same team, but stand a decent chance of dimming the shine on Watch The Throne. Which, despite not having the same amount of buzz, is possible if either artist delivers a better sounding album.
Which leads to our question of the day -- Will the upcoming Cash Money/Young Money LP's dethrone Yeezy and Jay?
Carter IV
carter4.jpg
With artwork like this, the album should have been called Trillmatic.
The Carter IV tracklist reads more like a guest list for the 2000 Source Awards. Features include Nas, Jadakiss, Shyne, Styles P. and  Busta Rhymes. It wouldn't be a Weezy album without a few Young Money spitters, as Drizzy and Cory Gunz also find their way on board. Say what you will about Weezy, but the man has a solid discography and a work ethic that is equal to none

Take Care

takecare.jpg
No artwork is available for Take Care. But I imagine Drake would be cool with this.
Take Care, which, based on the latest tracks I've heard, will likely be a cross between Mase's 1997 album Harlem World and the romance saga Twilight, is set to be released in October. No official videos have dropped, but a slew of remixes to the drunk-dialers anthem "Marvin's Room" shows that artists and fans alike are checkin' for the wave.
SOHH Watcha Think -- Will either album dethrone Watch The Throne as the most popular album of the year?

News: Waka Flocka Flame Burns Music Biz Career, "I'm Not Gonna Kick It In The Industry No More"

Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame has clarified his decision to retire and revealed that he wants nothing to do with the music industry once he hangs up the microphone.

Nixing plans to even take an executive position, Waka said he wants to help the youth upon retiring.

"Nah, I am gonna retire," Waka promised in an interview. "I'm gonna retire from the industry -- I'm not gonna kick it in the industry no more. I'm gonna do what I wanna do, how I started like from the beginning. I'm gonna do exactly what I wanna do. I don't expect to win awards, I don't expect to go to big venues. I'm gonna really help the youth -- this is what I started doin' it for, so I'm gonna finish doin' it -- Yeah, I'm gonna retire -- from the industry." (RapFix)

Waka's Ferrari Boyz rapping partner Gucci Mane recently gave SOHH his reaction to Flocka's retirement talk.

"Me just being honest, I'm one of Waka's biggest fans," Gucci added when asked if he believes Waka will really retire by 2012. "I'm a huge fan of his music, you know what I'm saying? Me just being a fan and seeing how he is when he goes into the studio, I would hate for him to stop rapping because I like what he's doing. Every song he's every made, I've liked. He goes hard. So I would hate for him to leave the game because I think he's bringing a whole new thing to the rap game. He's got his own style." (SOHH)

A few weeks ago, Three 6 Mafia's DJ Paul said he did not believe Waka would retire.

"I like Waka Flocka. Waka Flocka's one of my favorites," Paul told Rap-Up TV. When asked what he thought of Waka's possible retirement, he responded, "I remember when I was his age. You're having too much fun. He won't do it." (Rap-Up)

Last month, Waka opened up about his lack of motivation to maintain a rap career.

"That's absolutely true," Flocka said, confirming his retirement tweet. "The game as a whole is fake. I'm tired of just going through what I go through and then at the end of the day, the forecast is always rain. It always rains on my world. It's so many different haters, fake smiles, fake hugs, so to prevent myself from doing anything, I'd just rather quit. I'd rather work at Walmart than rap and that's my word on God. Yup. I'll put that on Jesus Christ, I ain't lying. It's something I could never explain because people aren't living this lifestyle. So at the end of the day, people living the lifestyle can probably understand why I'm doing it. At the end of the day, I'm just doing it for my friends and my family, get them straight and then it's over for me." (V-103)

Serena Williams Addresses Drake Romance, Dating Rumors

Tennis superstar Serena Williams has finally addressed her recent spottings with Young Money star Drake and the question of whether or not they are a couple.
According to Williams, the media and fans should view them as close friends.
She looked around to her supporters -- her father Richard, and, elsewhere, Toronto rapper Drake. Later, she would sigh exaggeratedly when asked what the deal is between her and the 24-year-old musical polymath. "Oh, man. Really?" she said. "We're really close friends. Can't be too close to a friend nowadays, I guess." (Toronto Star)
Earlier this week, romance rumors surrounding both entertainers emerged online.
Has Young Money rapper Drake finally moved on from his alleged love affair with Rihanna to a new romance with tennis star (and rapper Common's ex) Serena Williams? According to, LiveTennisGuide.com the pair have been getting extra cozy over the past few weeks with the most recent rendezvous being last week in South Florida. Last week, after Drake tweeted to Serena 'I Can't Wait To Put It On You And Make You Sweat... during our match this weekend", the two had some one on one time on the Tennis Court. Days later, Drake was spotted cheering her on as she competed for the 2011 Rogers Cup tournament in Toronto. (Necole Bitchie)
A couple weeks ago, a photo of the two playing tennis landed online.
Common lost! Just kidding, Com. Drake and Serena Williams only hooked up on the tennis match over the weekend. But, uh, Drizzy sure sounds like he had something else on his mind when he referenced it on Twitter late last week, huh? Just saying. (Complex)
Days prior, Drizzy publicly hinted at his match-up with Williams.
"@serenawilliams I cannot wait to put it on you and make you sweat..........during our match this weekend.," he tweeted August 3rd. (Drake's Twitter)

The Based God Screwed My Chick: 5 Celebrity Break-Ups Lil B Probably Sparked

In celebration of Lil B's 22nd birthday, SOHH has compiled five possible celebrity break-ups we think The Based God could have caused, if granted the opportunity.
1. Nas & Kelis
Nas & Kelis (Based God F*cked My B*tch)
Power couple Nas and Kelis announced that they were calling it quicks back in April 2009 despite being pregnant with their first son together. Since then they have gone through a nasty legal battle over child support and child custody. Finally, a little over a year later, the marriage has officially come to a close. According to TMZ, the divorce has become official, however the issues of child custody and support still remain. Right now Nas has to pay around $10,000 a month, which is a fee that he claims is too much for him. How long can they possibly draw this thing out? (Hollywood News)
Hmm. We can't help but wonder if Lil' B chose to abandon the "Wonton Soup" for a long, hard slurp of Kelis' milkshake. Tasty.
2. Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez
Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez (Based God F*cked My B*tch)
Did Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez breakup? Rumors have been swirling that the cute couple have split. Some suggest that Selena Gomez dumped the popstar to focus on her career and wants a more mature boyfriend. Maybe Shia LaBeouf? Poor Biebs is reportedly heartbroken and wants to desperately win his girlfriends love back. Is it true?
Every pop singer and R&B songstress likes to have a bit of rap arm candy, but having to choose between Lil B vs. Shawty Mane? No contest....we think.
3. Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony
Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony (Based God F*cked My B*tch)
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have split after seven years together. The couple, who are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme, made the shock announcement in a joint statement this afternoon. 'We have decided to end our marriage,' they said. 'This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters.' (Daily Mail)
Can anyone say, MILFS? No? How about, Cougar? While we love to believe in fairytales and happy endings, but just as we saw Vivica A. Fox do to 50 Cent, we can let our minds wander and believe J to the L-O, made a holy decision. All bow to the Based God.
4. Joe Budden & Esther Baxter
Joe Budden & Esther Baxter (Based God F*cked My B*tch)
"I am a Californian. My manager has been trying to get me to move out there for about two years now. It was such a big move that I postponed it. But knowing I needed to move here I decided to go 'head and do it," she explains. "I'm recently...single and that was pretty much what was holding me back. Now that I'm single, I've decided I'm going to focus on me and my career and my child...With me, I had no idea who [Joe Budden] was, what he did, or any of his music. ['Pump It Up?'] No, I thought Swizz Beatz did that song...I didn't know anything about his past. And I judged him by who he was and who he presented himself to me." (KING)
With all that voluptuous that Baxter's back has to support, who better to juggle those goodies than someone who isn't that far from infancy? Based God-- no, Breast God. Spread the California love!
5. Wiz Khalifa & Amber Rose
Wiz Khalifa & Amber Rose (Based God F*cked My B*tch)
"It's pretty serious. I really, really dig her," Wiz told radio personality Angie Martinez Wednesday (March 30). "People think it's an image thing and that we're just doing it to be crazy, but like, for real, for real, it's just two great people meeting at a good time. We just like to crack jokes and stuff like that. She's very down to earth, she's very realistic, and that's the way that I am. Just seeing stuff for what it is and not being blinded by the lights...I'ma be with her. That's why we wanted to give it to the world. But it's realistic. It's nothing that we're just beefing up or just doing for anybody's eyes. It's real. She's a great girl. I really, really am into her...I'm the kind of guy who knows when I'm winning, no Charlie Sheen intended. When you won, you don't gotta keep trying to do stuff that's gonna mess it up." (Hot 97)
Sure, these love birds are conjoined at the hip, but if we had to take a wild guess, we could imagine the Based God coming in between these two. With Amber Rose living out in Los Angeles these days (far from Pittsburgh), it wouldn't be a shock if we caught Rose  and the Based God licking foreheads and being..er... gay,  at a few after parties.
From all of us at SOHH, Happy 22nd Birthday, Lil B!

I Wanted To Make Music That Would Be The Soundtrack To A Sex Tape"

With the release of his Sextape Chronicles Part 2 mixtape, singer/songwriter Verse Simmonds tells SOHH how he whipped up his latest offering.
Simmonds said his ultimate goal was to make an actual soundtrack to lovemaking.
I think for the most part, people don't really know what to expect from me as an artist. But now people are listening to "Boo Thang" and starting to say, "Yo, I really love that record." So I really wanted to put out a complete project that would really give people a real understanding of what I'm bringing to the music industry and so I'm really excited about this. This is going to sound crazy but the concept came from me. I kind of wanted to make music that would be the soundtrack to a sex tape. Like, watching things that are sexy on TV and so I came up with this idea. I was able to put this music together and put it all into what I am as an artist and it came out to be something that people are really going to listen to and be thrown off by." (SOHH)
The singer also revealed a few of his personal favorite tracks from the project.
There's a lot of tracks on here that I had a really good time putting together. Of course "Boo Thang" is the record with Kelly Rowland. It's my single right now. I have a record on there called "Love No Glove". I really, really love that one. "Tears of Joy" is a really close one. If I could name one more, it would probably be 'Miss Johnson'." (SOHH)
Hosted by radio personality Angela Yee, Simmonds' new project features guest spots from Kelly Rowland and Young Swift.
01. Verse Simmonds - Intro (0:28) 02. Verse Simmonds - Interlude (0:37) 03. Verse Simmonds - Protection (With Words By Kenny Burns) [Prod. By Sak Pase] (3:11) 04. Verse Simmonds - Tears Of Joy [Prod. Young Swift) [Prod. By Mel & Mus] (3:25) 08. Verse Simmonds - Interlude (0:37) 09. Verse Simmonds - Boo Thang (Feat. Kelly Rowland) [Prod. By Sak Pase] (4:25) 10. Verse Simmonds - Miss Johnson (Feat. Bu) [Prod. By Reign] (3:26) 11. Verse Simmonds - Lip Service With Angela Yee Part 2 (0:52) 12. Verse Simmonds - I Wanna See You [Prod. By Sak Pase] (3:05) 13. Verse Simmonds - One Last Time With Angela Yee Outro (3:58) (Mixtape Wire)
The singer recently talked to SOHH about linking up with Rowland for their "Boo Thang" duet.
"Kelly's a real cool girl, I met her one time," Verse Simmonds told SOHH. "I wasn't in the studio when she recorded her version to my song 'Boo Thang'. But I met her shortly before that and what ended up happening was she heard the 'Boo Thang' record and really, really loved it. She wanted to get on it -- I definitely think she's slept on and a lot of us should be paying more attention to her. Her 'Motivation' record has opened up a lot of eyes too but I think there's no limit to how far she can go." (SOHH)
