War gains a new perspective in ‘War of the Bloods in My Veins’

Last week i attended a party for author and former local Shawna Kenney, as she visited her favorite Wilmington haunts during vacation. There, I was honored to meet award-winning journalist Majsan Boström. Her internationally respected writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Bangkok Post, Café, as well as other high-profile magazines across the globe. So, when she personally took me aside, handed me a memoir off her bookshelf and recommended it for encore, I had to dive into it. Through chit-chat, Boström understood I was desensitized (yet moved) by hard-core war stories. Movies like “Tears of the Sun,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Black Hawk Down” and “Full Metal Jacket” are staples in my home; however, none of the aforementioned titles could have prepared me for what the book depicted. On every level, DaShaun “Jiwe” Morris opened my eyes to a very different, ongoing conflict, significant and encompassing our stateside streets everyday: gang violence.
Author of “War of the Bloods in My Veins: A Street Soldier’s March Toward Redemption,” Morris is an activist, mentor and “Blood Author” rather than simply a former “gang banger.” Within his first narrative, he chillingly recounts the journey of an East Coast member of the infamous Bloods gang. He writes about the absence of security or support, and how both mitigating factors are what thrust him into battle for the first time at age 11 in the streets of Phoenix. It was there that a friend’s older brothers placed him in a car, put a gun in his hands and made him squeeze the trigger toward rival gang The Crips.
“In the darkness of the streets, my childhood is murdered. . . . I am reborn—a gangster,” Morris writes. Noted as a cry to his brothers, “War of the Bloods in My Veins” has been touted an exceptional and ruthless look into the undying cycle of abandonment, violence, death and self-annihilation that plagues the lives of too many youths in our communities. The foundation of his work began during his time served within the Delaware State Correctional Facility as he faced 25 years.
“[The memoir] was birthed out of survival within the penitentiary,” Morris begins, “when I started, it wasn’t with the intention for a story; it was therapy . . . The hardest part was to tell the story of my mother. My mom had been straight off of crack for 14 years. She cleaned up, and I had to reveal a lot of her past—things she didn’t speak to people about. When the book came out, we were on the phone for a couple hours. She called me, sobbing uncontrollably. She said in all her years parenting, she never realized the mistakes she made affected her children so much, and to actually read it in my words, how her children felt about drugs, not having a stable father, she felt she failed.”
Comprehensive and raw, Morris’ vivid memories makes his silent, eventual redemption an enlightening page-turner for any race or ethnicity. Though, readers should be forewarned: His use of language is hardcore—not because he wishes to glamourize his former lifestyle, but because there is no other way to get his struggles and point across. Offensive dialogue aside, it’s important to move past it to catch the more important underlying message. It is this crucial element that makes it unsurprising to people of all genders and backgrounds. From the streets to suburban churches, many reach out to him for help guiding other troubled youth headed down a similar destructive path.
“Gang violence affects everyone,” he says. “I think that it’s necessary to be informed, to be enlightened about these situations. We should never shut ourselves off. It’s an important matter around the country—[and] learning how to help is important. People just turn a blind eye to this madness. I say, ‘Be more caring and express more compassion about what’s going on around the country. You can go in your house and block it off and ignore it, but when it hits you close to home, when your kid is bullied or hooked on drugs then it becomes a concern of yours. Be open minded.’ I’m a firm believer people are not born this way; things shape you. I feel like when more people get involved from a genuine place, you get better results, and when you don’t understand something, you don’t need to criticize.”
Today, Morris, a dedicated father, speaks to dozens of juvenile facilities, boys and girls clubs, half-way houses and high schools across America in hopes to redirect youth energy toward more positive outlets. He focuses on core values that mean the most to him: honesty, unity, family and general welfare.
Though published in 2008, “War of the Bloods in My Veins” is a timelessly relevant read. As Morris points out, so long as there is poverty, crack, projects and those who prefer to ignore it, there will always be gang violence. Check out www.jiweera.com for more information. Morris’ next book, “Not At Their Expense,” will be released in 2012.

CIA Website Allegedly Attacked By Hackers!!

The homepage of the Central Intelligence Agency, http://cia.gov/, appeared to have been suffered an attack from a hacker group. LulzSec, a hacker group that has attacked the Senate website twice in a week, claimed responsibility for the outage in a tweet. Hit the jump to read the rest of the story.

The homepage of the Central Intelligence Agency, http://cia.gov/, appeared to have been suffered an attack from a hacker group on Wednesday evening.
The CIA site would not load properly and website DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com confirmed that the site was down. However, ReadWriteWeb’s Curt Hopkins, who notes that he lives across the country from CIA headquarters, said the website appeared “normal.”
LulzSec, a hacker group that has attacked the Senate website twice in a week, claimed responsibility for the outage in a tweet.
“Tango down – cia.gov – for the lulz,” @LulzSec tweeted around 5:48PM ET.
LulzSec recently announced that it had established a hotline at which it would be accepting requests for new sites and services to target. LulzSec has claimed responsibility for attacks on Sony, gaming company Bethesda, PBS.org, as well as gaming sites Minecraft and League of Legends. The group’s motto reads, “Laughing at your security since 2011.”
LulzSec has not added the CIA to its list of “releases”–documents containing information taken during its cyber attacks–on its website and it’s possible that the group may have brought down the website, though not taken sensitive data from the agency.
Still, the attack is likely to be taken as a serious affront to the CIA, given its national security responsibilities.
“I think the guys at LulzSec may have just made the biggest mistake of their lives,” security expert Graham Cluley told the Huffington Post in an email. “The CIA aren’t going to like having their nose bloodied like this.”
All Things D writes of the alleged denial of service attack, “The site is for all intents and purposes the public face of the agency, so it’s not likely that any classified information is being taken or any sensitive communications disrupted, but attacking government Web sites is a federal crime under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and probably some other laws I’m not thinking of.”
The group said of its previous attack on Senate computers, “We don’t like the US government very much. Their boats are weak, their lulz are low, and their sites aren’t very secure. In an attempt to help them fix their issues, we’ve decided to donate additional lulz in the form of owning them some more!”
The CIA was not immediately available for comment.

Minister Louis Farrakhan Calls Barack Obama A Murderer [Video]

Minister Farrakhan: "That's A Murderer In The White House!"
A video featuring Minister Louis Farrakhan speaking on Barack Obama's moves in the Middle East recently surfaced. The Minister doesn't hold his tongue when expressing his feelings concerning the war in Afghanistan and the bombing of Libya.
"We voted for our brother Barack, a beautiful human being with a sweet heart and now he's an assassin. They turned him into them," said Farrakhan.
At one point he yelled out, "That's a murderer in the White House."
Farrakhan calls Quaddafi a decent man that people do not know and continues his rant about the U.S President.
"You talk about a man killing his own people. When you lie to the American people saying that Sadam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. When you lie and then take innocent young men who come to serve their country, and send them to die in Iraq and Afghanistan, over lies, that's a murderer in the White House."

Jimmy Henchman Admits To Shooting Tupac [Video]

Dexter Isaac, a former friend of Rosemond, is an inmate currently serving life in prison for murder, robbery and other offenses.
Isaac came forward Wednesday (June 15th) with the information on the eve of what would be Tupac's 40th birthday.
He confessed to his involvement in the November 30th, 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur to AllHipHop.com, after Jimmy Henchman identified him in a statement, relating to Henchman's indictment for dealing numerous kilos of cocaine.

"I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman]," Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison. "I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie's] mothers some closure."
Henchmen, who is currently on the run from Federal officials, claimed that Dexter Isaac, along with other incarcerated inmates were cooperating with the government in an investigation of his alleged drug dealing activities.
"If the government is relying on informants like Winston “Winnie” Harris, a convicted drug dealer and Jamaican deportee, who came to me and motioned via hand signal that he was forced to wear a wire and begged me to skip town or Dexter Isaac who is serving life in prison plus 30 years, then I'm sure I will not be offered a fair trial," Henchman said in a statement released to AllHipHop.com in May of 2011.
Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com that he decided to confess to the robberies to prove Jimmy Henchman's involvement, in addition to clearing his conscious for the shooting.
Isaac said he was comfortable going on record relating to the robbery and shooting, since the statute of limitations had expired. Legally, no one can be prosecuted for the assault at this time.
The November '94 shooting of Tupac Shakur was the beginning of a deadly feud between Skakur and the Notorious B.I.G., who Tupac accused of being involved in the shooting.
Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. were both murdered years later, and their murders were never solved.
Pac had also rapped on "Against All Odds" from his Makaveli album that Jimmy Henchman had an involvement in his 1994 robbery and shooting.
"...Promise  the payback Jimmy Henchmen/ In due time I know you bi%ch ni%5as is listening/ The world is mine/ Set me up, wet me  up, ni55as stuck me / Heard the guns bust but you nig3as never shut me up..."

CoCo Says Nicki Minaj's Butt Is Fake, Hers Is Real!

She said: "Well, I read that it wasn't," Coco said when asked if she thought Minaj's backside was real. "Yeah, I thought she came out with it. I heard it from her. Yeah. OK, I've known -- I don't know. We're not even going to go there anymore. Scandal? Right? [laughs] And you know, I say about a lot of stylists, that work with me, and a lot of hair and makeup, they work with me. They touch my body, they're doing stuff all day long. So they're doing that same thing to Nicki Minaj. And they're saying it's a little bit different."

DJ Big Mike Arrested For Music Piracy

Michael Willcox better known as DJ Big Mike was arrested last week for Music Piracy. Apparently, the investigation has been going on for almost two years now, and Surveillance teams finally caught he and his brother in the act of distributing illegal CDs. More arrests are going to be made in the coming weeks.
The investigation began with the Recording Industry Association of America, a trade group that sent its own team of investigators to conduct a surveillance of a suspected “burner lab” at 27 Stetson Place in Danbury where pirated CDs were alleged being made and distributed, according to the affidavit.
The trade group is comprised of record companies that create, manufacture and distribute about 85-percent of all legitimate sound recordings made and sold in the United States, according to the affidavit. Three investigators from RIAA began the surveillance in Feburary of 2009.
The investigators allegedly followed a 1995 Ford Explorer registered to Willcox from his Danbury home to a residence at 12 George St., Mount Vernon, NY, which was suspected of supplying the materials and equipment used to manufacture recordable CDs and DVDs, according to the affidavit.

Hours of Surveillance Led to Music Piracy Arrest

An arrest affidavit shows that two brothers were under surveillance for months in connection with a music piracy case.
Surveillance teams poured hours into following suspects named “Little Mike” or "Big Mike,” also known as “DJ Big Mike,” trailing them for miles. Local police executed search warrants on three homes in Danbury, Bethel and Newtown, in addition to conducting numerous interviews with suspected accomplices.
This was some of what went into a lengthy investigation that began two years ago and culminated last week with the arrest of two brothers, Michael Willcox, 33, of Danbury and Stephen Sabato, 21, of Sandy Hook, on music piracy charges.
More arrests are expected, according to officials and an affidavit, which was filed in state Superior Court in Danbury and made available Monday.
The two brothers and their representatives could not be reached for comment Monday.
The arrest affidavit details a lengthy surveillance of Michael Willcox, also known as "Big Mike" or "DJ Big Mike" and his half brother Stephen Sabato, and their respective homes on Stetson Place in Danbury and Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook.
The investigation began with the Recording Industry Association of America, a trade group that sent its own team of investigators to conduct a surveillance of a suspected "burner lab" at 27 Stetson Place in Danbury where pirated CDs were alleged being made and distributed, according to the affidavit.
The surveillance team said Willcox appeared to have no other employment, though he was recorded as the property owner of the Stetson Place home, according to the affidavit.
Through further surveillance, an RIAA investigator allegedly followed Willcox to a Queens, NY check cashing establishment and later bought two CDss from a stack he allegedly had seen Willcox bringing in labeled “Big Mike DJ Mixes,” according to the affidavit.
Later, another RIAA investigator conducting a surveillance on the Danbury home saw a suspect identified only as “Little Mike” carrying a handful of CDs into a Gulf gas station at 113 North St. in Danbury and when she went in she was able to purchase one of those CDs for $5, according to the affidavit.
The CD bought in Queens and the one bought in Danbury apparently held the same content and later examination showed they were pirated recordings, according to the affidavit.
A search warrant was then executed on the Steson Place home where Danbury police found about 3,500 disks suspected of containing pirated music and inserts to make about 40,000 items, according to the affidavit. Songs by Lil Wayne, Mya, The Dream and G Unit and other Universal artists were part of what was found, according to the affidavit.
Titles of the CDs that were seized included “Blue Label That was my joint,” “Hard Knock Life,” “New York Struggle,” R&B Jump Off 50,” “Red Apples Falling” and “Trapaholics.”
Danbury detectives then interviewed an associate of Willcox, whose name was associated with a post office box used by Willcox and whose name shows up on mail delivered to the Danbury house, according to the affidavit. The associate said the master CD was mixed at another home and then burned into CD-Rs intended for distribution at the Washington Avenue, Sandy Hook residence where Sabato lives with his and Willcox's mother.
Meanwhile, RIAA continued its surveillance through July of 2009 where its investigators said they allegedly followed Sabato to an establishment in Stamford and later purchased CDs for $5 that were determined to be pirated music, according to the affidavit.
Later, Newtown police execute a search warrant on the Sabato residence at 18 Washington Ave. where they found 383 CDs with pirated music and boxes that were labeled to contain burner towers, according to the affidavit.
While police were executing the search warrant, an investigator with RIAA was keeping a surveillance on Willcox's Danbury home where she allegedly observed them quickly loading brown boxes into a car and then bringing them to an apartment in Bethel, according to the affidavit. Later they allegedly were seen throwing out CD disk inserts, the affidavit said.
A search warrant then was executed on the 32 Durant Ave., Bethel home where hundreds of CD-Rs and several thousand disc jacket inserts were found, the affidavit said.
Also based on UPS shipping records for Willcox, the three companies that he used to distribute the CDs collected a total of more than $600,000 for UPS cash on deliveries made between 2007 and 2009, the affidavit said.
At some point, some shipping invoices also showed that an ESPN account was being used to ship materials but that had not been authorized by ESPN, according to the affidavit. An ESPN representative told authorities the company believed the shipping information has been passed around the disc jockey industry, according to the affidavit.
A Newtown police officer also apparently reported a conversation he had with Sabato and another man in 2008 where the two said they spent a lot of time burning CDs on behalf of Willcox. The report said that Willcox mixes 10 songs every month onto a CD, which costs $.20 to make but is sold at $3 each, netting about $30,000 a month.
Sabato is out on a $1,000 bond and is to appear Wednesday, June 15 while Willcox was released on a promise to appear June 21.

Kanye Reacts To “Mama’s Boyfriend” Leak

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Monday, a long-awaited leak of “Mama’s Boyfriend” surfaced on the net. What most thought it was one of the two versions he originally created for his last album, it turns out that Ye’s vocals were stolen and paired with an unrelated backing track. Statement below.
The version of the Kanye West recording “Mama’s Boy” that arrived on blog sites earlier this week is entirely bogus and unsanctioned, and violates the artist’s creative intentions. As is often the unfortunate case, an unknown party or parties got a hold of Kanye West’s vocal track and added their own soundbed to it, effectively and falsely releasing it as a Kanye West track from the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sessions. The result in no way resembles the final song Kanye West intended his fans to hear, and he is deeply disappointed that one of the most personal, meaningful and special songs he has ever written would reach people in this way. Needless to say, measures are being taken to identify and prosecute the persons responsible for leaking this material.
