GHOSTWRIDAH NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Ghostwridah is a native of South Miami. You know, that little corner of Dade County between the University of Miami campus and Dadeland Mall. He's been a mainstay in Miami's diverse hip-hop scene for years and is one of the names that you will hopefully hear a lot more of in the coming months.
The proof is in his new song, "Red Bottoms," produced by Atlanta DJ and hip-hop heavyweight Don Cannon. It's the first single off of Ghostwridah's upcoming album, In Love With My Future. The track starts off with a percussion-heavy beat, topped with the all-too-famous "Like Louboutins with the red bottoms, you gotta have em" vocal sample from Jay-Z's 2006 sleeper hit "I Know." As you know may or may not know, Louboutin heels are easily recognizable by their trademark red bottoms. And this is a song that serves as a tribute to them and the girls that will do anything for them.
You'd think this song would take turn into a three-minute presentation of flashiness and bragging rights about shows. But the song, refreshingly, takes the opposite route: It recounts the tale of a girl who puts material things on a pedestal, at the expense of the more important things in life. Here's a sampling of the lyrics:
Nightlife living, walk like Trina
Credit card suffering, somebody call FEMA
Just a young dreamer, infatuated with "fly"
We all got a vice and hers is red bottoms
The song is catchy (mainly due to the Jay-Z infused chorus), but it may be a little hard to digest for the typical radio listener. But stranger things have happened and this could catch on. In fact, strange things need to happen if more songs like this, with actual messages, find their way onto hip-hop radio station playlists. Download below, and you be the judge.
